This impact was negative overall and rendered the whole industry helpless for a while. The starting few months were the worst, but thankfully they are picking themselves up back again. Let’s discuss this impact in detail.
Impact of Covid-19 on UK Clothing Manufacturers
The clothing manufacturers overseas were impacted in the worst way possible. There are several reasons for that. Some of them are:-
● Frequent order cancellations in large numbers
When the lockdown was announced in the UK, there was a surge in order cancellations. This resulted in a high loss for the manufacturers who had already invested in raw materials.
● International clothing manufacturers are unable to pay Suppliers
As the manufacturers are suffering from losses, they cannot pay their suppliers situated in other countries. This, in turn, is harming their business relations, which will affect them in the future.
● Less demand for new clothing
Due to lockdown and infection risks, people are not going out. Therefore, shopping for clothing does not seem essential. It has reduced the demand for new clothing throughout the country.
● The hesitation of people regarding home deliveries
Some cases were getting reported where the person was infected because of home delivery of products or food. That made everyone afraid of ordering things online or through telephone.
● Unsold materials in large quantity
As it was the middle of the winter season when Covid hit, and many unsold items were left with the International clothing manufacturers.
● Manufacturers are switching to producing PPE
Due to the clothing industry going down the drain, most manufacturers started switching to producing PPE. PPE market is booming, and they are trying to make up for their losses through that.
● Unemployment Troubles for factory workers
Factory workers who work extra shifts to provide meals to their families are being let it go. It has resulted in massive poverty for the whole sector of garment makers.

They are learning new safety measures of import, export, and home delivery to give the best customer satisfaction.
